Over the summer the world lost a pioneer in the field of aging, Dr. Robert Butler. At his memorial service scheduled for tomorrow in New York, many will mourn the loss and pay their respects to “the father of geriatrics.” He was a leader in aging and longevity, introducing concepts like healthy aging and ageism.
While today’s culture worships youth, Dr. Butler viewed aging as a great human achievement, not simply a problem to be solved. His long career included being the first director of the National Institute of Aging, founding the International Longevity Center in the early 1990s, and winning the coveted Heinz Foundation Prize.
At Marca Life Planning, we are honored to celebrate a great American and ambassador for the aging community. His work for older adults helped countless people around the world and left a legacy that will be forever treasured.
